September 23, 2013
This Friday afternoon, we will be participating in the Terry Fox National School Run Day. I always look forward to this day at school and feel proud to see how our students are able to come together and contribute to cancer research. It is also a special day because it celebrates the legacy and strength of our youth and reminds us about the impact that our students can have as individuals or together as a powerful community. This year, we have asked our students to donate a ‘Toonie for Terry’; our goal is to raise $1200.00. For those who are interested, students can give their donations to their homeroom teachers on Thursday, September 26.
The following is a look back on the life and journey of Terry Fox, a man who makes us very proud to be Canadian.

Refund Cheques...
As mentioned in last week’s update, we will be refunding the 2012-2013 security deposit cheques and cancelled trip deposits to students during this upcoming week. Specifically, the following students should be receiving a cheque returned to them:
Grade 7 [French and Spanish Program]: Year-end Grade 6 Activity Fees
Grade 8&9 [All Programs]: Security Deposit Fee
*Grade 10 [All Programs]: Security Deposit Fee + Farewell Graduation Activity Fee
* Please note that these cheques will be mailed directly home.
It is important to note that if there are any remaining school fees, textbooks or library books from the 2012-2013 school year, that students may not have their security deposits returned to them. Teachers will communicate this information to the students but if you do not receive a cheque home, please contact Ms B. Branham, our school bookkeeper, or myself at the Main Office [403.777.7840 ext 0]. Once again, I would like to thank Ms B. Branham, who has been working so diligently to compile the money owing for our cancelled trips and security deposit refunds, it has been a challenging task and we very much appreciate her dedicated work.

10 Expectations...
Just before we review this week’s upcoming events, I had the opportunity to watch an interesting video on the 10 Expectations that students have of their teachers that was recently highlighted on BP’s former principal, Mr. J Scott’s, Weblog. This is good feedback and I am planning on sharing this at our next staff meeting.

The week that was…
Meet the Teacher
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us on at our Meet the Teacher evening last Thursday evening. It was a bustling event and it was great to see so many of parents and students connect with our staff. It was also the first volunteer event for some of the newest members on the Leadership Committee and, I must say that they did a great job showing parents around the school!
As well, a special thank you to Lydia Palmer, President of the School Council, and Kathy Warren, Vice President of the Bishop Pinkham Music Parent Association [BPMPA], who spoke at the opening of the evening. If you are interested in volunteering a little or a lot, both the School Council and BPMPA are currently recruiting all interested parents! Please contact the Main Office for information.

Rouleauville Gourmand Trip
Most Calgarians probably know the Mission district and its popular 4th Street but few people are aware that it was the original French quarter in Calgary. On Thursday, September 26, our Grade 7 Late Immersion students will become more familiar with Francophone culture and history in Calgary. The students will embark on a walking tour of le quartier français, learn about Calgary's francophone roots and enjoy a gourmand walk starting at Rouleauville Square, with stops at a patisserie and at l'Epicerie. A special thank you to Mme S. Abboud for supporting this cultural extravaganza!
