There are many things to share this week, please read the following to hear updates about how to find lost items, keep our students safe, support our Learning Commons and also to celebrate the many upcoming activities! Thank you for your support…
To the left are two examples of some completed projects from our students enrolled in CDC. We are proud of how hard they worked to complete these tables - well done!
We would like to take the time to thank our caretaker, Mr. R. Couvoisier, who has been replacing Mr. Kroeker, who is away on medical leave. Mr. C has recently revamped our Lost and Found box and moved the items to a coat rack in front of the Music Room to be more accessible for parents and students.
I have taken pictures of some of the lost and found items that are shared below. Please consider either coming in to take a look or encourage your child to come and find their lost items. There are many sweaters, jackets, winter boots, gloves, shoes, lunch bags and binders.
Please note, that we will leave the items there until after parent-teacher interviews and then will be donating them to a local organization.
We would like to ask for parents help with some on-going traffic concerns.
Before and after school, parents are often dropping students off in front of the school or in our school parking lot. Quite often, when parents are dropping students off across the street from the school, students run directly in front of traffic and between buses to get to the school. This is of HUGE concern to us because with slippery roads and dark mornings, it is obvious that our students are in serious danger of getting hit by a bus or a car.
Please, please, please do not allow your student to run across the street. If you are unable to park directly in front of the school, please use our staff parking lot to drop them off. Saying this, please drop them off at the 2nd door furthest down the school. Our staff has communicated that doors closest to the street is not a safe destination, as staff come across the same dangers of being hit by a car. Thank you for your support.
This year, we will be hosting a book fair in the Learning Commons during our Parent-Teacher Interviews on February 5 and 6. We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to help coordinate the book fair and also some additional volunteers to collect money. We are very excited to support this book fair. Not only will students be buying French, Spanish and English books, but 70% of the sales come back to school if sell over $3000.00! This will certainly help increase our books in the Learning Commons. Please contact me directly if you are interested ([email protected])
The week that was…
We would like to thank all of the parents who were able to attend our meeting and hear more about the upcoming report cards from Ms. J Tuttle. There were many questions that were asked regarding the new outcomes-based report card and Ms. Tuttle provided many examples of sample report cards, comments and discussed the purpose of the shift in assessment.
We have invited the Alberta Health Region to join us for our next School Council meeting that will occur on Wednesday, February 25 at 6:30pm. The focus will be the Sexual Health Education Program that students will be learning about in February. We look forward to seeing you there!
Congratulations to our own teacher Ice Panthers team. On Saturday January 18, Srta. Gilbertson, Mr. Khubyar, Mr. Kennedy, M. Juilien, Mr. Palkovits and M. Langlois, participated in the Kimmett Cup, a fundraising event for The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada in Cochrane. We were so proud of our BP staff supporting such a fantastic event! They played 3 games and competed fearlessly….we heard that there were some sore bodies the next day, the students may notice them walking a little stiffly this week!
Below is a very fun video out of our Grade 8 Outdoor Ed class taking advantage of the Chinook Winds and Kite Skiing in our school field last Friday. Very cool – thanks to Mr. Jordan for passing this along!
